1967 was the year I started taking photographs, and a year later I purchased my first enlarger and began to develop and print on my own. I “cooked” the developer solutions myself, since I have a chemistry background. Not only did I save money that way, I also got exactly what I wanted. I adjusted the developer to each specific film (I''''ve used llford PANF and PF4 films as well as Kodak''''s +X, Three X and a Litho film of 6 ASA).
In 1969, I bought my first SLR – Nikkormat FTN, which served me faithfully until 1983, when it was stolen from me in Chicago.
I replaced it with the Nikon FE, which did a great job until the N70 and the F75. In 1977, I entered the world of color but due to homemade developing limitations, I wrapped up my enlarger in bubble paper and put it into storage (where it is to this day).
I took some optional workshops in photography (mainly technical photography) together with my Masters and Doctorate studies, but my knowledge in this field comes mainly from reading and experience. I have won several worldwide awards and have held two exhibitions in Israel. My photos appear in US-published books on Israel that focus on photos of the old city of Jerusalem – both its people and its places.
In 1999, I entered the digital world – and since that day my photographic world has been completely transformed. I recognize the limits of the digital format, but have also discovered its many advantages, and enjoy it more and more with every passing day. After experimenting with some Point and Shoot cameras, I purchased my first DSLR and “came home” - to the heavy photography bag, which is well worth carrying.
I love to take pictures of landscapes, animals, interesting places and buildings, street situations, women, and loads of colors – especially flowers. Taking pictures "does it" for me – it lets me express a different aspect of myself, one which is not otherwise revealed in my daily life.
I created this site so I can show my work and express my thoughts regularly. I hope you will find it interesting and useful. I update it on a regular basis with news, articles, test reports and so on, and I’m also developing “Ted’s class” – where one can learn about the different aspects of photography. I am active in several forums in Israel as well as around the world, and take great pleasure in sharing my experience with others.
If you don''''t already have one, I wish you an inspired photographic spirit, and hope that you enjoy each and every click – just as I do!
Best regards - Yossi (aka TED)
